I always keep a round chambered in the gun, for the purpose that if it was not loaded, it really wouldn't be that much use. As usual, yesterday morning I unloaded the gun, fired an empty shot to test the recoil, and then loaded the pistol with my almost full clip. However, I must have forgot to reset the safety before returning the gun to its hiding place. After returning to the dorm late last night, I was absolutely exhausted. So, I dropped my books, and flopped down on the bed.
The next impression I had is that of a muffled bang. After about half a second, I percieved a pain in my arm, and after about a second I percieved the smell of the discharge. Next to me was a ragged hole about two inches in diameter. The round imbedded itself in a shelf directly above my bed, and had fallen somewhat flattened on the floor.
After a couple of minutes, I figured out that I must not have reset the safety, and I had discharged the gun by falling on my matress. My roomate was not in (I believe he was off drinking) and I managed to hide most of the evidence. I told the other members of the dorm that the sound was caused by a blown bulb, which, considering most of the sound was muffled, was taken (hopefully) without mistrust.
Fortunately, I landed on my bed far to the right of the gun, so when it went off the round only grazed the upper part of my left arm. However, to tell you the truth, I am still scared SHITLESS about what would have happened if I had jumped, say, on the left side of my bed.
I'll top this off with a question: how many people here have almost gotten killed by their stupidity?
