The Man with the Laughs

Gooooooooood-byyyyyyye Vietnaaaaam! That's right, I'm history... I'm outta here. I got the lucky ticket home, baby. Rollin, rollin, rollin'... keep them wagons rollin', rawhide! Yeah, that's right... the final Adrian Cronauer broadcast... and this one is brought to you by our friends at the Pentagon. Remember the people who brought you Korea? That's right, the U.S. Army. If it's being done correctly, here or abroad, it's probably not being done by the Army.

In honor of Robin Williams, I've decided to forsake the rules and simple post a lot of what made him special to us: his humor and ability to make us laugh!!

Genie: [turns into a cheerleader] Rick 'em, rack 'em, rock 'em, rake! Stick that sword into that snake!
Jafar: You stay out of this!
Genie: [Weakly] Jafar, Jafar, he's our man; if he can't do it, great!

When Christopher Reeve was in the hospital after his accident, Robin came to visit him. Reeve said this about that surprise visit:
Then, at an especially bleak moment, the door flew open and in hurried a squat fellow with a blue scrub hat and a yellow surgical gown and glasses, speaking in a Russian accent. He announced that he was my proctologist, and that he had to examine me immediately...it was Robin Williams...for the first time since the accident, I laughed. My old friend had helped me know that somehow I was going to be okay.
When Stephan Spielberg was filming "Schindler's List", Robin would call him to cheer him up. I think I only called him once, maybe twice. I called him when I was representing People for the Valdheimers Association. A society devoted to helping raise money to help older Germans who had forgotten everything before 1945. I remember him laughing and going 'thank you.'"

So CA just unveiled the details about the Rome II Emperor Edition in Episode 21 of Rally Point. With Emperor Edition update coming out in a few weeks and EB II's release a few days ago, it's a good time to be a Total War gamer

I'm rather excited about the new civil war changes, I have to say. I've just reached civil war in my campaign again, and let me tell you if one of my generals and legions I actually owned defected, I would a) be in big trouble and b) be devastated, because I love them. There's some serious war stories with them!

Agreed Scenter. i cant wait for say 20 years down the track when we can look and see what the hell is actually going on. Is there Russian troops there? Is it Ukrainian propaganda? Is the USSR resurfacing? Will there be a broader war?

Most likely both, AE. There isn't a lot of truth being spoken about what's happening in Ukraine.

From what I can see, the USSR won't be resurfacing. The Russians simply don't have the economy to sustain an advanced military, the kind of which a hyperpower would be using. Unless Putin somehow manages to vastly improve the Russian economy in a sustainable manner, there isn't much to be expected of Russia. It'll be acting like the military arm of the BRICS. But the BRICS are going to expand their influence over several parts of the world in the coming 20 years or so. Unipolarity won't continue for ever, so I guess this is one of the "signs" of another power rising.

While I'm inclined to agree with you both on unipolarity not lasting forever and other nations increasing their power relative to that of the US, I don't think this latest move by Putin is a sign of that. With his mighty 20 battalions, Putin is simply trying to prove that his nation still has what it takes to be a world power (hint: it doesn't) and maybe snatch up some semi-attractive nearby real-estate while he's at it.

Sanctions are starting to hurt the Russian economy. So I guess we'll see at what point Putin decides his Ukrainain adventure isn't worth the candle. Or, rather, how much he actually cares about more than personal political advantage.

That said, on one view he's doing little more than adhering to realist policies of Russia's regional security and sphere of influence. I have some degree of sympathy with that view, but am unconvinced.

Edit - Article by the same author from 1993 saying the Ukraine should have kept its nuclear weapons to deter Russia.

Kinda like Britain...
Sanctions are starting to hurt the Russian economy.
But how much of an effect is this actually having? Is it building public pressure for Russia to back down(i doubt it)? Sanctions are a long term hurt, but short term, i suppose, there really isnt much to be done..:/

Thankfully for us and many others, the DeI team have just released Divide et Impera 0.95L which is compatible with the Patch 15 Beta and all of its features except for the new buildings (they'll work on incorporating certain ones in the future)

Damn Radious is broken.
The advantage of having the Beta out is that it gives modders behind major mods like Radious & DeI an early look at the changes to the startpos and other crucial files, and allows them to prepare compatible versions in advance of the official release. From what I heard from Dresden, the changes to unit & building listings are considerable and will put a lot of work on his and the rest of his team's plate. I can only imagine how much work Radious has to do with all of his unit packs in mind.

That being said, anyone wishing to talk further about the Patch 15/Emperor Edition Beta is welcome at the new discussion thread at Rome II: Total War Heaven here

US colleges on the semestre/trimester system started, for the most part, a couple of weeks ago. If they're on the quarter system, they typically don't start for a few weeks yet.

Unis start all through September here. A couple might be in the beginning of October, but that'd be the exception.
