The Man with the Laughs

Gooooooooood-byyyyyyye Vietnaaaaam! That's right, I'm history... I'm outta here. I got the lucky ticket home, baby. Rollin, rollin, rollin'... keep them wagons rollin', rawhide! Yeah, that's right... the final Adrian Cronauer broadcast... and this one is brought to you by our friends at the Pentagon. Remember the people who brought you Korea? That's right, the U.S. Army. If it's being done correctly, here or abroad, it's probably not being done by the Army.

In honor of Robin Williams, I've decided to forsake the rules and simple post a lot of what made him special to us: his humor and ability to make us laugh!!

Genie: [turns into a cheerleader] Rick 'em, rack 'em, rock 'em, rake! Stick that sword into that snake!
Jafar: You stay out of this!
Genie: [Weakly] Jafar, Jafar, he's our man; if he can't do it, great!

When Christopher Reeve was in the hospital after his accident, Robin came to visit him. Reeve said this about that surprise visit:
Then, at an especially bleak moment, the door flew open and in hurried a squat fellow with a blue scrub hat and a yellow surgical gown and glasses, speaking in a Russian accent. He announced that he was my proctologist, and that he had to examine me immediately...it was Robin Williams...for the first time since the accident, I laughed. My old friend had helped me know that somehow I was going to be okay.
When Stephan Spielberg was filming "Schindler's List", Robin would call him to cheer him up. I think I only called him once, maybe twice. I called him when I was representing People for the Valdheimers Association. A society devoted to helping raise money to help older Germans who had forgotten everything before 1945. I remember him laughing and going 'thank you.'"

Beer when it is near, brandy when it is handy. Wine is fine anytime.

Also worthless advice, but at least it rhymes.

My favorite beer: Free beer.

Second-favorite beer: Any Beer.

Gotta either climb up the tree (beer -> wine -> spirits) or down the tree (spirits -> wine -> beer), not go up and down all over the shop.

Note, this advice is worthless.
Never mix wine and anything is my advice - except wine followed by a fortified wine (or brandy etc) with a meal. Apart from the fact it's a shameful waste of wine, it will always come back to hit you over the head. Wine and beer in any combination in the same night are a bad plan in my experience.

Also vodka isn't that good. For getting drunk and that's it really.

I'm a barbarian and I completely agree... but then I've already sort of admitted that wine is my (current) poison.

You can't really dislike vodka, but it's definitely the lamest spirit.

Never buy it too cheap. Like the 8 litres I bought for 4 euro/L in St. Petersburg. Just not a good idea.

Finland is vodka or beer. Finnish beer is kind of weak, but it's nice. Vodka is generally the main tipple here.

I suppose that adding vodka to the beer would make it both weaker (flavour wise) and stronger - and probably utterly horrid.

The only self-fortifying I've tried was adding shnapps to some of my father's homemade wine. Tasty result but a bit dangerous

Just found out I bought a DLC to Civ V that I don't recall ever purchasing. Darn Steam Sales.
posted 13 October 2013 00:48 EDT (US)     891 / 2504
Never curse those sales! I need a steam sale for CK2 to roll around so I can buy the game and all the DLCs in one fell swoop!

Admittedly, I currently have... 2 steam games, so the situation is different!

I wish now after buying EU4 on steam I'd bought CK2 on Steam as well. It's a pain to use the save converter for EU4 when your steam CK2 DLC is on another version.

Long stint with no internet...
Bahrain again! Not much to do here, but there is wifi and go karts at the local formula 1 track. Time to get all the patches for Rome2. Also, I'll be back in the States in January now. Got extended.
The only part I liked about Bahrain was the Na'an that's sold on every corner. Dubai is far better IMHO; Johnny Walker Blue Label and cartons of smokes for 15 dollars.

I've never seen anybody deploy and not get extended.

EU4, Arkham Origins and Civ Vs Brave New World are on my wishlist.

On another note, I have realised a lot of the science behind Medicine is incredibly vague. Even the simple human cell has so many structures that might not even be there.

What does that tell us about all the other disciplines that can't even work with axioms to begin with?

All of Science is based on subjective methods as everything is always conducted in a human context, it's perspective-based and as such it's always vague in some parts.
