The Man with the Laughs

Gooooooooood-byyyyyyye Vietnaaaaam! That's right, I'm history... I'm outta here. I got the lucky ticket home, baby. Rollin, rollin, rollin'... keep them wagons rollin', rawhide! Yeah, that's right... the final Adrian Cronauer broadcast... and this one is brought to you by our friends at the Pentagon. Remember the people who brought you Korea? That's right, the U.S. Army. If it's being done correctly, here or abroad, it's probably not being done by the Army.

In honor of Robin Williams, I've decided to forsake the rules and simple post a lot of what made him special to us: his humor and ability to make us laugh!!

Genie: [turns into a cheerleader] Rick 'em, rack 'em, rock 'em, rake! Stick that sword into that snake!
Jafar: You stay out of this!
Genie: [Weakly] Jafar, Jafar, he's our man; if he can't do it, great!

When Christopher Reeve was in the hospital after his accident, Robin came to visit him. Reeve said this about that surprise visit:
Then, at an especially bleak moment, the door flew open and in hurried a squat fellow with a blue scrub hat and a yellow surgical gown and glasses, speaking in a Russian accent. He announced that he was my proctologist, and that he had to examine me immediately...it was Robin Williams...for the first time since the accident, I laughed. My old friend had helped me know that somehow I was going to be okay.
When Stephan Spielberg was filming "Schindler's List", Robin would call him to cheer him up. I think I only called him once, maybe twice. I called him when I was representing People for the Valdheimers Association. A society devoted to helping raise money to help older Germans who had forgotten everything before 1945. I remember him laughing and going 'thank you.'"

I remember Tricky Dick.

Those White House tapes revealed a whole other side to him, no?

Still, he did some good things before going out with the trash. Got the Americans out of Vietnam while leaving the place standing (the Communist assault which took the country a few years later was after his time), and opened up China to trade as well. I'll bet people are regretting that move, now, aren't they?

Forgive me, the Nixon era and the watergate scandal are a aspect of history in which i am incredibly ignorant.

Its funny how now after Trump has been elected that all the world leaders are coming out of the wood work to 'congratulate' him.

He is intent on keeping American manufacturing in America, and bringing back what had transferred out. Those other nations don't want to lose the jobs that came to their lands in the transfers, thus are trying to butter him up to soften the blow.

Probably.

It could be they are just kissing ass, but I doubt that.

There's a great deal as to his possible foreign policy, in light of his expressed admiration for Putin and comments on withdrawing from Asia. Effectively, leaders are trying to get him to keep the US engaged and to avoid making radical changes.

Also, ripping up trade agreements would cause significant economic disruption to countries that trade with the US, and indeed to the US itself.

I do not know if he really cares about that. I think he is concentrating on keeping American jobs in America, and to hell with the markets, the other countries, other influences.

I am not saying it is right, only that it appears to me his intentions.

What are the odds TWH will finally give up the ghost before we get to the end of this party thread?

I'm honestly astounded and disappointed that it's lasted as long as it has. It's been "alive" for more than three and a half years now

Odds? Long. TWH is not going to die. It will just gradually fall asleep as more and more of the crew move on to the bigger things in life, and fewer and fewer join our ranks.

You want this Party Thread to end soon? A simple cure, really. I can express it in a single word:

POST!

If people do that, we reach the end. A solution elegant in its simplicity.

I am truly a genius as times.

A block of stone at others, but at times, a true genius.

The Perks of being a Wallflower?

Well, to a degree, i agree. But i think in certain instances some are gifted with more love then thy think they deserve. Certain people i know, have very poor opinions of themselves but are involved in loving and caring relationships, with the mount of love clearly above what they would estimate they deserve.

But that being said, i do believe that it happens- people who are so self-conscious and in poor mental states involve themselves in poor and possibly abusive relationships because, as the saying goes, they believe they deserve no better.

All that being said, i am no sociologist, or psychologist so take my perspective with a grain of salt.

'Twas the night before Christmas and outside the house
I was with hose stirring, my garden to douse.
The plants had hung their leaves in despair,
With no hope that any rain soon would be there.
The roses though thrived all snug in their beds,
While images of white flowers waved o'er their heads.

Merry Christmas in Australia.

With apologies to Clement Clarke Moore.
