The Man with the Laughs

Gooooooooood-byyyyyyye Vietnaaaaam! That's right, I'm history... I'm outta here. I got the lucky ticket home, baby. Rollin, rollin, rollin'... keep them wagons rollin', rawhide! Yeah, that's right... the final Adrian Cronauer broadcast... and this one is brought to you by our friends at the Pentagon. Remember the people who brought you Korea? That's right, the U.S. Army. If it's being done correctly, here or abroad, it's probably not being done by the Army.

In honor of Robin Williams, I've decided to forsake the rules and simple post a lot of what made him special to us: his humor and ability to make us laugh!!

Genie: [turns into a cheerleader] Rick 'em, rack 'em, rock 'em, rake! Stick that sword into that snake!
Jafar: You stay out of this!
Genie: [Weakly] Jafar, Jafar, he's our man; if he can't do it, great!

When Christopher Reeve was in the hospital after his accident, Robin came to visit him. Reeve said this about that surprise visit:
Then, at an especially bleak moment, the door flew open and in hurried a squat fellow with a blue scrub hat and a yellow surgical gown and glasses, speaking in a Russian accent. He announced that he was my proctologist, and that he had to examine me immediately...it was Robin Williams...for the first time since the accident, I laughed. My old friend had helped me know that somehow I was going to be okay.
When Stephan Spielberg was filming "Schindler's List", Robin would call him to cheer him up. I think I only called him once, maybe twice. I called him when I was representing People for the Valdheimers Association. A society devoted to helping raise money to help older Germans who had forgotten everything before 1945. I remember him laughing and going 'thank you.'"

Hail Gaius, welcome and wassail!

Here the halls are nearly deserted, but the True and Honorable still roam among them. They chase me all over the place. We have a new influx of delightfully spicy spambots to keep us occupied, and while many of our former denizens have moved on with the Progression of Time and Aging, some have also returned to share their exploits.

It does seem a little quiet but that's to be expected sadly. Spam threads give a poor impression I have to say.

All well otherwise. Bought a house, changed job and had a wee kid in the space of one year so lots going on. Really getting into the diy thing now!

Good to hear that you're doing well.

I found having a house certainly adds to the variety of everyday things you need to know how to do, though I can't claim to be enthused by DIY!

When there are more Spambots than posters, that does look a bit bad.

Sounds like you've been quite busy, Gaius, and glad to hear you're doing well.

What games are you all playing? Got rtw2 cheap in a humble bundle but not all that enthused with it. Played stw2 recently. It's okay. CK2 is the one that keeps pulling me back.

I bounce back and forth between Oblivion and RTW (the original), though lately more in Oblivion than Rome.

I do like to use the custom battles of RTW to fight out the battles that form up in my customised version of Oblivion. I do a lot of RPG in that, and as my chracter advances through different mods, sometimes battles come up that will kill my computer. RTW to the rescue, followed by some cursor commands to make it right!

I just couldn't get in to RTW2.

I've taken a bit of time off over Christmas/New Year, and in between trips to the hardware store I've been re-visiting some old favourites such as ETW2 and LA Noire.

I'm contemplating re-installing MTW2 as well.

Edit - 15 posts to the end of the party thread. Surely it won't stretch into 2017?

Going on three and a half years now. Definitely a record for us

I've been playing a lot of (modded) Total War: Warhammer lately. I started a historical fantasy story for NaNoWriMo last year so I've kinda been stuck in a 'fantasy mood' since then. Been thinking about reinstalling MTW2 as well to play the Third Age mod.

Is there anyone out there who recalls how to set up the next one?

I do recall there was something about Rules, One through Five, then Seven and above.

And a theme. Have to have a theme.

And the countdown begins.

After three and a half years of puttering along, this Holy Roman party seems about to breathe its last.

Who shall claim the mighty prize?

The suspense is so thick one can cut it with a butter knife.

Or battleaxe, whichever is handier.
