The Man with the Laughs

Gooooooooood-byyyyyyye Vietnaaaaam! That's right, I'm history... I'm outta here. I got the lucky ticket home, baby. Rollin, rollin, rollin'... keep them wagons rollin', rawhide! Yeah, that's right... the final Adrian Cronauer broadcast... and this one is brought to you by our friends at the Pentagon. Remember the people who brought you Korea? That's right, the U.S. Army. If it's being done correctly, here or abroad, it's probably not being done by the Army.

In honor of Robin Williams, I've decided to forsake the rules and simple post a lot of what made him special to us: his humor and ability to make us laugh!!

Genie: [turns into a cheerleader] Rick 'em, rack 'em, rock 'em, rake! Stick that sword into that snake!
Jafar: You stay out of this!
Genie: [Weakly] Jafar, Jafar, he's our man; if he can't do it, great!

When Christopher Reeve was in the hospital after his accident, Robin came to visit him. Reeve said this about that surprise visit:
Then, at an especially bleak moment, the door flew open and in hurried a squat fellow with a blue scrub hat and a yellow surgical gown and glasses, speaking in a Russian accent. He announced that he was my proctologist, and that he had to examine me immediately...it was Robin Williams...for the first time since the accident, I laughed. My old friend had helped me know that somehow I was going to be okay.
When Stephan Spielberg was filming "Schindler's List", Robin would call him to cheer him up. I think I only called him once, maybe twice. I called him when I was representing People for the Valdheimers Association. A society devoted to helping raise money to help older Germans who had forgotten everything before 1945. I remember him laughing and going 'thank you.'"

Well, yes it all comes into play. In a sense it reverts to the whole Ancient Greek Drama cycle- Hubris- Ate- Nemesis

That is how i see it anyway

At some point Terikel we'll have to try and work out which side you favour
posted 28 January 2014 12:46 EDT (US)     1255 / 2504
I know I can be ambivalent.

I just have a hekel (Dutch word, hard to translate) on people who shoot rockets at cities (targeting the city itself, mind you), then cry and whine and claim foul when they get paid back in kind (targeted on the loctions where the munitions were fired from). These are the same idiots who thought it a good idea to gun down an Olympic team and throw a wheelchair-bound man from an ocean liner at sea. That there are to this day morons who applaud these Lions of Islam as heroes for taking on unarmed victims I find even more disturbing.

I do not care if it is the Israelis who murder Palestinians by detonating bombs on schoolbusses, or if it is Palestinians who hunt down and execute the idiots who place the bombs. Or Vice versa. Really, I give less than a rat's ass. But the insane bias... that I cannot stand. If People X are waging indiscriminate warfare against People Y, then People X lose all right to complain when People Y smack them back. They also lose all pity I might otherwise scrape up for them. You simply do not get to wave a book at the other side and say "It says here that we can do this shit to you and you cannot do this shit to us."

People who demand such can kiss my lily-white ass.

Our first description of the anatomy of Terikel.
(besides the beard of course)

But i agree with you Terikel. It is outrageous to think that it is ok to do something(like fire missiles indiscriminately) and cry death and murder when the same thing happens in retaliation.

This is just one of the many annoyances in the world. Everybody wants to be the victim because they get the most support...

On another note, did anyone else see this? I cant believe that they are so out of ideas that they have to go back and change something classic just to make a few bucks...

Yeah I'm not going to opine on the middle east as I don't really know enough about the arguments to choose a side, though there probably isn't a proper "good" side.

A Back to the Future musical just sounds bad.

Don't get me wrong- I am not choosing a side, just in principal when this happens

Pick any side, but the side of Arabs. Prehistoric idiots they are.

Our swords are taller than us,

I concur with Terikel.

EDIT:

A Back To The Future musical? Couldn't they think of any other way to celebrate the 30th anniversary? I think the folks who made Judge Dredd remade it in 3D last year. There are lots of ideas. But a musical?

though there probably isn't a proper "good" side.
Both sides (more if you count those not directly involved but feed weapons and munitions to those who are) do bad things. Both sides do good things. There is no clear-cut good or bad in this.

There is, however, a bleeding-heart policy in the media to sensationalize the violence of the one side, and to neglect or play-down the violent acts of the other. That is how news services sell their product. And in doing so, they (deliberately? don't know, but probably) move public opinion to favor one side over another.

I am quite sure the whiners and cryers are doing it on purpose.

Here is the formula:
Throw a bomb at a city. do so from a residential neighborhood.
Run like hell (that's why these things are mounted on pick-up trucks)
Await the inevitable reaction.
Rush forth from safety, with cameras on, to whine and cry over the destruction caused.
Send footage to local news network.
Rake in the sympathy money.
Rinse and repeat.

No word back on the HG merchandise yet. I will start planting feet.

A little while ago I asked if anyone had the link to the site where we could buy HG merchandise. There used to be on. I thought I remember there being shirts, mousepad, mugs and stuff. Nothing wildly fancy, but it was something. It also helped HG out cuz of money. I need a mousepad, but would also buy a shirt.

I have to say, I'm slightly dissapointed that the Superbowl showed up American football as a poor version of Rugby, not because of the padding (as per the steriotype) but simply because most the time when anything exciting happened they simply stopped. Perhaps it was more down to the lack of interest invested and the fairly one sided game, but I didnt expect to be proven wrong like that.

But still, people walking around in HG shirts and stuff may attract some modest attention and help revive (slowly and over a lot of time) interest.

Too many and too big means wars and trools (trolls and tools, combined to save space ) and all sorts of bad things.

About fifteen to twenty or so more active people (in each subforum) would be just about right for activity and friendliness.
