Last time I heard, the next Total War game will not be yet another sequel, so Medieval 3 will be a while off yet. The next game should be something new, going back to the previous cycle of having a new game in between sequels\re-imaginings to old favourites. Which I'm kind of glad considering how well Rome II turned out, CA need to go back to basics and make the core tenants of the series rock solid again after Rome II.

If your real-time battles, seiges more so than field battles in Rome II nowadays, are not up to scratch people might as well go play a Paradox game or something. Since despite all the work CA might put in to the campaign map, it is going to pale in comparison to the efforts of other games which focus solely on a deep engaging real-time or turn-based "campaign" map.

I would also argue that they should try to avoid the desire to follow the "Bigger is better!" creed until they have that core experience nailed down first and foremost. I would rather have more turns per year, and seasons, on a smaller more focused map than Rome II's massive (ultimately lifeless in my opinion) map if it means the game's core selling points are stronger for it. There is always expansion-esque paid or free DLC there to later extend the vastness of the map should you design your systems to work that way, hello Rajas of India.

For the sakes of multiplayer balance they could do with separating the files for units in to campaign and multiplayer versions as well. Campaign balance and decisions, looking at you Training Yard building chain, are impacting what statistical tweaks CA can do for multiplayer balance. Don't even get me started on the building chains, where a large number of the building chains can be considered redundant outside of roleplaying and handicapping yourself.

Personal opinion, however, given I usually play the real-time battles zoomed out for a better tactical overview of the entire battlefield I could care less about high graphical fidelity graphics and animations. I cannot actually see most of the details while zoomed out in Rome II due to the LoD\Draw Distance settings used to help improve performance. The game looks alright maxed out, but I'd argue that Shogun 2 looks as great, if not better, from the same camera angle I use.

I still think the Viking expansion to MTW was the best of any TW DLC that I have played.

I also liked how in MTW you had to chain your ships together to create your trade routes which made pirates a bit more dangerous.

In some ways the risk style map was also pretty nice, though I would probably not say I prefer it.

That said I'm surprised you enjoyed it at all. The battle interface is incredibly clunky compared to RTW onwards.

It takes some getting used to when I pick it up, mostly the mouse buttons since right click doesn't move but the camera angle is pretty awkward as well. Don't see why it would stop me enjoying it. I've played games with worse interfaces

True, but I find if I go back and play an older game for the first time (so not go back and play a game for the 100th time), quite often I struggle to get into it at all because the interface is terrible and loads of things I take for granted dont exist (Fallout 1/2 are great examples of this - I own both, but haven't played more than 10 or 20 minutes of either).

That was a bit unexpected... Not.

I can see the Turks wanting something done, especially since they are being flooded with refugees they really can't afford, and I can see them being afraid to go it alone, what with Big Brother Vlad not too far away and all. But still, to go the route of Iran and arm radicals and jihadists.... This could backfire bigtime when the fuss in Syria is over.

One thing I've noticed is that the military just went in to our area, near Krak des Chevaliers, has been purged of the islamists. Yes, they were islamists and not Opposition fighters because our area is largely Christian, and everytime they went on incursions in the nearby towns they killed a couple dozen people and beheaded some more. I think that the army attacking the fort was because the presidential elections being 3 months away, and I think it's clear that they want to wrap things up before July.

Yesterday i was in the mood for a new game so i started up Tropico 4 (i bought it about a year ago but neglected to play it), and Oh BOY! Why have i neglected this game for so long? It is awesome! And Tropico 5 is coming out in a couple months.

I've had the same problem with Steam lately. The most annoying bit is that is says that you can't open anything else or close Steam without task manager.

We always had a problem with it being too quiet, I remember being bothered about that when I was staff. But there was an atmosphere - a kind of organically-developed enthusiasm or community or something. Not just the odd event cranked out according to schedule. Now it feels like a retirement home - I mean look at me reminiscing of back in the day.

It happens when we don't draw a crowd like we used to. I was drawn to here by RTWH, and because the little link, which showed if there were new posts here or not, was always orange, so I figured I would stop by here and have been here ever since. The new Heavens don't have this, so it just looks like another dead end part of the forum.

And the fact that we aren't producing amazing content like in Rome 1, due to the fact modding is significantly harder in Rome 2 than the original. Content draws readers, which means some of them will register and post. The crowd we have here is older than when they first got here, and many of us now have real life to contend with instead of just school and gaming.
