The Man with the Laughs

Gooooooooood-byyyyyyye Vietnaaaaam! That's right, I'm history... I'm outta here. I got the lucky ticket home, baby. Rollin, rollin, rollin'... keep them wagons rollin', rawhide! Yeah, that's right... the final Adrian Cronauer broadcast... and this one is brought to you by our friends at the Pentagon. Remember the people who brought you Korea? That's right, the U.S. Army. If it's being done correctly, here or abroad, it's probably not being done by the Army.

In honor of Robin Williams, I've decided to forsake the rules and simple post a lot of what made him special to us: his humor and ability to make us laugh!!

Genie: [turns into a cheerleader] Rick 'em, rack 'em, rock 'em, rake! Stick that sword into that snake!
Jafar: You stay out of this!
Genie: [Weakly] Jafar, Jafar, he's our man; if he can't do it, great!

When Christopher Reeve was in the hospital after his accident, Robin came to visit him. Reeve said this about that surprise visit:
Then, at an especially bleak moment, the door flew open and in hurried a squat fellow with a blue scrub hat and a yellow surgical gown and glasses, speaking in a Russian accent. He announced that he was my proctologist, and that he had to examine me immediately...it was Robin Williams...for the first time since the accident, I laughed. My old friend had helped me know that somehow I was going to be okay.
When Stephan Spielberg was filming "Schindler's List", Robin would call him to cheer him up. I think I only called him once, maybe twice. I called him when I was representing People for the Valdheimers Association. A society devoted to helping raise money to help older Germans who had forgotten everything before 1945. I remember him laughing and going 'thank you.'"

Mcdonald's has a surprisingly rigorous application form.

Though I must admit the place has really gone to shit. A lot of patching, stucco work, and maybe a few coats of paint would help spiff it up somewhat.

Some roofs might help, too. And doors and windows for when the neighbors are noisy.
Perhaps even building a temple like structure using those lonely pillars. The tourists would love it

So I just suffered the weirdest bug. my account on here was logged off and I went to click on this post and it sent me straight to the ETW main page. once I logged back in I was fine but I'd thought I'd share.

OF course McDonalds has a rigorous application process they accept only the best.

I've experienced the same issue with the Bardic Circle; when I'm logged off, if I click on a topic, it takes me to the R2TW Heaven home page. (Perhaps this is something for our tech people to look into?)

You know that feeling when you're working on a mod, you've spent a couple of days on it, and then you start getting a no-error CTD every time you try to load the campaign map? And you check every single file you've altered and everything looks perfect?

Yeah. That feeling.

Wait, Scotland's leaving? Why was I not informed?!

Also, I managed to access my old photobucket account, yayyyy. Quite a blast from the past - old screenshots, avatars, snippets of historical interest... much early days of RTW nostalgia.

Beats what happens to me. When I get logged off (the machine throws me out; I do not do that voluntarily) it refuses to let me log back in until I fetch a hammer or an axe and threaten the infernal contraption with bodily violence. Often takes up to a half hour.

I would gladly trade that experience for the mere inconvenience of being teleported into Rome II.

By the way, the techs will tell you to clear your cache and try again. Ctrl+F5.

If anybody still plays RTW multiplayer using the {-RTWH-} clan prefix/indicator thing, please post in the thread so that I don't wrongfully petition for its termination. I have temporarily reclaimed clan adminship (for what it's worth!) because there are currently no moderators who are actually in the "clan".

I think it's dead, but we could transfer some of the good features that work for casual online play (such as use of the clan prefix + rules, and clan(/forum) championship) to the general RTWH contact database thread. I'm happy to manage the merger with mod permission and supervision (and eventual unsticking).

So, today I finally received the results for the Panhellenics, and I made 19,235/20,000 overall. A massive success, being first of my class, and it allows me to enter pretty much any Uni I choose...

Well, I'm interested in Biology, so I'm aiming for the Department of Biology of the National University of Athens...

Also, I thank everyone for the congrats... May you achive your goals , as I have so far...
Is that effectively 96%, or are the separate marks not percentages?
Well, based on the results of the six subjects on which I was examined, an overall grade is calculated, which determines how well I did. So yes, it is 96%...

You probably won't get a decent job here if you don't do Physics-Chemistry-Maths or Business Studies-Accounting. Nobody except those with the lowest marks go for things like history.

It's very different over here. You do need good specific grades to go for STEM subjects, pathways to decent if not excellent salaries and secure employment - but they're not really considered top jobs (with the exception of medicine). Engineers for example aren't as respected in this country as e.g. Germany. Whereas if you want to work in running a business or finance or banking etc, on the whole a specifically relevant degree is not a pre-requisite.

Such is my youthful impression anyway.
