The Man with the Laughs

Gooooooooood-byyyyyyye Vietnaaaaam! That's right, I'm history... I'm outta here. I got the lucky ticket home, baby. Rollin, rollin, rollin'... keep them wagons rollin', rawhide! Yeah, that's right... the final Adrian Cronauer broadcast... and this one is brought to you by our friends at the Pentagon. Remember the people who brought you Korea? That's right, the U.S. Army. If it's being done correctly, here or abroad, it's probably not being done by the Army.

In honor of Robin Williams, I've decided to forsake the rules and simple post a lot of what made him special to us: his humor and ability to make us laugh!!

Genie: [turns into a cheerleader] Rick 'em, rack 'em, rock 'em, rake! Stick that sword into that snake!
Jafar: You stay out of this!
Genie: [Weakly] Jafar, Jafar, he's our man; if he can't do it, great!

When Christopher Reeve was in the hospital after his accident, Robin came to visit him. Reeve said this about that surprise visit:
Then, at an especially bleak moment, the door flew open and in hurried a squat fellow with a blue scrub hat and a yellow surgical gown and glasses, speaking in a Russian accent. He announced that he was my proctologist, and that he had to examine me immediately...it was Robin Williams...for the first time since the accident, I laughed. My old friend had helped me know that somehow I was going to be okay.
When Stephan Spielberg was filming "Schindler's List", Robin would call him to cheer him up. I think I only called him once, maybe twice. I called him when I was representing People for the Valdheimers Association. A society devoted to helping raise money to help older Germans who had forgotten everything before 1945. I remember him laughing and going 'thank you.'"

I'd throw a house party and pay for all the drinks if the BBC ever shuts down.

No more having to pay hundreds of pounds every annum for something I watch maybe every saturday/sunday night for an hour when football season is on!

I suppose you have the same attitude to the NHS- something you will eventually have to pay taxes for but won't need it for years at a time. Grr, where's the upside in that?

I love the Star Wars Battlefront games. I have a feeling my ancient arthritic computer won't be able to handle the new one, however.

Yah, but there's a huge difference between some TV channels and the health of people in the country.

If you don't play for Tv liscence, BBC may have to axe a show so some people can't get their nightly view of a bunch of plebs on coronation street.

If you don't pay for NHS someone might die due to lack of funding. Bit of a difference

So the trailer for 300: Rise of an Empire came out today. Shame it won't come out until long after Rome 2 is released, but it looks like it will be an entertaining distraction (as long as you take your 'history hat' off).

Except that's probably the last show they'd cancel.

The alternative to licence fees would be the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, which is funded out of consolidated revenue rather than a dedicated levy.

Got to love the ABC, alot of the population doesn't appreciate it however, but they do have alot of good programs..

Also, Pitt- do you have the SBS world news app for IOS?

No. In fact, I didn't even realise they had one. I've had the ABC News app for a while, but I hardly use it. I've found it's just easier following ABC News, BBC News, and selected journalists, on Facebook and Twitter.

A Tito-flavored HRP? I support this. Tito has long been my favorite communist.

My roommate is from Belgrade. His grandfather was executed by Tito. Shortly before his death, Tito invited his (my roommate's) father to dinner, along with the children of many other of those he had killed. I figure as far as dictators go, that's pretty damn decent.

That doesn't really have much to do with why I like Tito, I just thought it was a cool story. Telling the Russians to go screw themselves and being the youngest sergeant major in the Austro-Hungarian Army were enough for me.

No, my last chance was BUTTs and I didn't do that well. Had my sighters counted I'd have probably done it though, because my sighters hit all 6 arrows and got about half my overall score or something on 80yrds. Speaking of BUTTS, that was great and the field was amazing to shoot on, if perhaps a little too sunny Shame you didn't go. I also saw Birmingham's rather odd ritual for the first time.
