The Man with the Laughs

Gooooooooood-byyyyyyye Vietnaaaaam! That's right, I'm history... I'm outta here. I got the lucky ticket home, baby. Rollin, rollin, rollin'... keep them wagons rollin', rawhide! Yeah, that's right... the final Adrian Cronauer broadcast... and this one is brought to you by our friends at the Pentagon. Remember the people who brought you Korea? That's right, the U.S. Army. If it's being done correctly, here or abroad, it's probably not being done by the Army.

In honor of Robin Williams, I've decided to forsake the rules and simple post a lot of what made him special to us: his humor and ability to make us laugh!!

Genie: [turns into a cheerleader] Rick 'em, rack 'em, rock 'em, rake! Stick that sword into that snake!
Jafar: You stay out of this!
Genie: [Weakly] Jafar, Jafar, he's our man; if he can't do it, great!

When Christopher Reeve was in the hospital after his accident, Robin came to visit him. Reeve said this about that surprise visit:
Then, at an especially bleak moment, the door flew open and in hurried a squat fellow with a blue scrub hat and a yellow surgical gown and glasses, speaking in a Russian accent. He announced that he was my proctologist, and that he had to examine me immediately...it was Robin Williams...for the first time since the accident, I laughed. My old friend had helped me know that somehow I was going to be okay.
When Stephan Spielberg was filming "Schindler's List", Robin would call him to cheer him up. I think I only called him once, maybe twice. I called him when I was representing People for the Valdheimers Association. A society devoted to helping raise money to help older Germans who had forgotten everything before 1945. I remember him laughing and going 'thank you.'"

I have bad typing at the best of times, sometimes I can type really odd stuff like letters that don't even exist in the word if I don't concentrate properly. I usually proof read my posts so you don't see them. or edit them fast

Speaking of Uni of, we found out their team (specifically one part) earlier this week so some of us are just a tad concerned. Glad the pressure isn't on me.

I have done it occaisionally but I never say much that I wouldn't normally say on here atleast, I just have even worse typing than normal. I tend to try and avoid it elsewhere though since I can have occaisional bouts of paranoia about people around me when I'm stressed or such. I once went on to my old clans forums a year or so back in a bad mood after going out and rage posted that I was going to leave and that they talked about me when I wasen't there and I hated them all and stuff. Was a tad awkward when I next logged on to say the least.

I haven't posted drunk for ages (at least, not properly "oh god what is this" drunk). If I'm drinking enough that it will make a noticeable impact on my posts then it's rare that I'll be staying at my own house which means I won't be online.

I guess, but drunk posting on a tablet is probably more effort than its worth.

Besides which, I meant more that after a night out I'll be back at whichever friends house I'm bunking at which means a) I'll be busy yabbering on about nonsense in real life rather than here and b) I'm far far more likely to be so inebriated that coming onto here and making posts is really unlikely (contrast this to uni where I'd go out drinking like every night but oftenit'd be just a pub trip so I'd be home for 11/12).

I tend to go back to 2005 levels of spelling, but when I go out now I usually have the girlfriend with me, and thus don't do the thing I used to of noticing the computer and sitting on it for a while.

I used to do my pre-labs drunk. Good test of how well you know something, and we could do it as many times as we needed to without penalty- therefore I'd leave it until thy very morning of labs and do it then.

Almost everything about our rail network is terrible. Local trains are generally both cheap and ok but as soon as you head into journeys over 25 minutes or so they become expensive and crap.

Don't complain, TheKid, the workload in Ghent is a lot lighter than it is in the Netherlands! It was comparable to that in the final year of the BA here, except with a somewhat heavier thesis, it's just that it seems the Belgian uni system doesn't really prepare students for the more intensive tutorials so they're not ready when they finally happen during their masters degree.

Also the course description of the thesis is so vague that many students seem to hand in endless meandering studies that describe everything about a specific subject but don't have a point, in the misunderstanding that being complete is akin to delivering a good thesis, which is definitely not the case. It seems Flemish students also spend less time practising essay writing.

I finished a masters' degree in Ghent and managed to do one in the Netherlands at the same time and still got an 18 for my thesis from Marc Boone.

Also new today, an old "friend" tried to kill his parents in a fire. The saddest part is that no one is surprised and the kid is facing 3 felony charges.

Damn, we definitely have mutual collegues/associates. When was your thesis year? I interviewed Marc Boone for a little journal just last week. In fact one of the things I interviewed him about is indeed the problem of those thesis-less theses.

I feel like you are oversimplifying our uni's system though. The thesis' workload differs drastically with different promotors. I have friends who wrote a 20K words thesis (= nothing) and friends who write between 50 and a 100K theses.

The thing is that my uni courses are not the only thing keeping me busy. I chose to combine it with a position at the local student circle for history, doing sport every single day and going out most nights of the week. Additionally, we both know that your achievement of writing two theses at the same time is exceptional, and not really representative.

Should you pop up in Ghent sometime soon, give me a pm and we'll have a drink.

edit: What's your thesis called? I have easy access to all master theses here, it'd be interesting to read. I assume it's on late-medieval history since Boone was your promotor.
edit edit: I should actually be able to find it myself, since I know your name and promotor.
edit edit edit: Found it, fun!
