The Man with the Laughs

Gooooooooood-byyyyyyye Vietnaaaaam! That's right, I'm history... I'm outta here. I got the lucky ticket home, baby. Rollin, rollin, rollin'... keep them wagons rollin', rawhide! Yeah, that's right... the final Adrian Cronauer broadcast... and this one is brought to you by our friends at the Pentagon. Remember the people who brought you Korea? That's right, the U.S. Army. If it's being done correctly, here or abroad, it's probably not being done by the Army.

In honor of Robin Williams, I've decided to forsake the rules and simple post a lot of what made him special to us: his humor and ability to make us laugh!!

Genie: [turns into a cheerleader] Rick 'em, rack 'em, rock 'em, rake! Stick that sword into that snake!
Jafar: You stay out of this!
Genie: [Weakly] Jafar, Jafar, he's our man; if he can't do it, great!

When Christopher Reeve was in the hospital after his accident, Robin came to visit him. Reeve said this about that surprise visit:
Then, at an especially bleak moment, the door flew open and in hurried a squat fellow with a blue scrub hat and a yellow surgical gown and glasses, speaking in a Russian accent. He announced that he was my proctologist, and that he had to examine me immediately...it was Robin Williams...for the first time since the accident, I laughed. My old friend had helped me know that somehow I was going to be okay.
When Stephan Spielberg was filming "Schindler's List", Robin would call him to cheer him up. I think I only called him once, maybe twice. I called him when I was representing People for the Valdheimers Association. A society devoted to helping raise money to help older Germans who had forgotten everything before 1945. I remember him laughing and going 'thank you.'"

@Darth

In previously did not like the 'mash up' versions of songs- but the combination of Titanium and 500 miles is epic. Don't you forget about me is a classic and a great implementation.

I love the idea and running if map games- but I don't think I could go to the effort of starting playing one just to have it collapse and burn again. So much effort and thinking wasted..

Terikel- I saw that village in Norway burnt down. Where were you last night? No drunken revenge raids on your homeland I hope.

That village was only a few hundred years old. It did not even exist as a daydream in my day, so I did not know it.

It was, however, very pretty before turning to ash.

They have no idea how this started. Some schools of thought running around are that it was the work of a satanist, or some asshole smoking in bed, or faulty wiring. I think the two last one far more likely than the first- the church was not hit, after all.

A shame, but with enough pictures, some lumber, and a bit of hard work, the structures can be rebuilt as they were, leaving only the memories and the mementos of the people as lost forever. Hopefully they can rebuild it with better fire-protection this time.

Sixteen homes and a warehouse burnt down. I just heard on the news that one guy saw a fire on the outside of a house. Arsonists entering the ring?

Luckily nobody was killed in the blazes.

At least no one was killed or injured. That is a silver lining i suppose.

Still- the heritage of the village will hopefully be somehow kept with surviving houses- and as you say, possible rebuilds/ Could even be a good project for some 'specialist' people who want more information and practical knowledge on building that particular style of houses from that era(if such knowledge is needed/ not known already).

Well, luckily no one was killed in this disaster. I wonder though, how were these people feeling while thir houses burned. It must have been terrible for them to see the destruction of everything they had worked for...

Good thing no one got killed or injured. I hope the reconstruction efforts will bring the village back to how it used to be.

So- News providers- who does everyone use?

I normally stick to my BBC World News, but if something interesting is going on in Australia then SBS app it is. I would like to augment these with a new- at least somewhat reliable news service.

BBC News mainly, especially for sport.

The I when I can get it due to it being a very cheap newspaper that has serious and light stuff in it.

The Guardian for healthcare news, since BBC Health is a bit meh now.

At Uni I tend to get most my news over the internet. I find the Daily mail (which my parents get) is well, as it always is and the guardian is pretty much as bad, just usually the opposite side.

In fact, now that I think about it, most of the major news pieces I've found out about in the past 2 years have been over teamspeak and then googling them for more information.

BBC for the main stuff, Al Jazeera if it pertains to the Middle East and Asia, as I find they do a rather decent job in the Asian news.

And then for American news I go NPR and then a local Minnesotan news provider.

As to the Daily Mail, I read it regularly.

Yeah, if you're looking for a good world news source, don't look at US stuff. They're very much focused on the US, and typically so biased as to be unreliable.

I typically just use Yahoo from their front page for random news, or Google something if I'm actually looking for information.

Online I check VG (A Norwegian newspaper) and the BBC regularly. If a post somewhere leads me to look deeper, then I examine those sources as well.

I do this also if I feel the BBC or VG may be biased on an issue- surprisingly, this is quite often, but not as slanted as the few American news sources I used to follow.

For local news I read a free hardcopies of Metro, the Spits, the Wassenaarder, and sometimes the Dutch Telegraf.

Is the VG privately owned or more like the BBC? US news sources, being all private have only the incentive to their story over other sources, not actually report in an unbiased manner.

Yes- if she says off drugs then there is a bright future for her. I heard that she got scouted and signed a contract when she was 13, and was put on the back burner to mature her voice for a few years- although i cannot verify this with a source.

GS- VG is a private newspaper.

Like in the US, it has no requirement to post unbiased news. It slants it heavily to make it sensational, because their number-one requirement is to sell newspapers.

However, the state-run NRK network is also biased- in this case to the left unless it concerns Israel, and then it is toward the Muslims. Anything the Right does, gets trashed, anything the Left does (not matter how stupid) is lauded. If the Palestinians shoot rockets into Israel for a week- not even a soundbyte. If Israel shoots back, front-page news of how that horrible country is indiscriminately and without provocation firing heavy weapons onto that poor population in Gaza...
