The Man with the Laughs

Gooooooooood-byyyyyyye Vietnaaaaam! That's right, I'm history... I'm outta here. I got the lucky ticket home, baby. Rollin, rollin, rollin'... keep them wagons rollin', rawhide! Yeah, that's right... the final Adrian Cronauer broadcast... and this one is brought to you by our friends at the Pentagon. Remember the people who brought you Korea? That's right, the U.S. Army. If it's being done correctly, here or abroad, it's probably not being done by the Army.

In honor of Robin Williams, I've decided to forsake the rules and simple post a lot of what made him special to us: his humor and ability to make us laugh!!

Genie: [turns into a cheerleader] Rick 'em, rack 'em, rock 'em, rake! Stick that sword into that snake!
Jafar: You stay out of this!
Genie: [Weakly] Jafar, Jafar, he's our man; if he can't do it, great!

When Christopher Reeve was in the hospital after his accident, Robin came to visit him. Reeve said this about that surprise visit:
Then, at an especially bleak moment, the door flew open and in hurried a squat fellow with a blue scrub hat and a yellow surgical gown and glasses, speaking in a Russian accent. He announced that he was my proctologist, and that he had to examine me immediately...it was Robin Williams...for the first time since the accident, I laughed. My old friend had helped me know that somehow I was going to be okay.
When Stephan Spielberg was filming "Schindler's List", Robin would call him to cheer him up. I think I only called him once, maybe twice. I called him when I was representing People for the Valdheimers Association. A society devoted to helping raise money to help older Germans who had forgotten everything before 1945. I remember him laughing and going 'thank you.'"

Welcome back!

We trust thy voyage was replete with loot, booty, and booze, as well as comely wenches.

Booty and loot were aplenty, although in the area of Vanuatu, the lack of development does greatly prohibit the looting options.

Then one must be creative.

Set up a bar. That attracts people. Then pillage the place.

Loot and booty, to go! Free delivery included.

How can you beat that?

Anyway, I am pleased at thy return and that thy voyage was a success.

As long as there are those willing to kill others, this will continue.

What strikes me as odd is that France has rthe highest majority of Muslims in Europe (as a percentage of population) and they have done a reasonably good job at integration and acceptance. So why the sudden backlash by 2d and 3d generation immigrants?

My general impression of the likely course of the future of the world is pretty negative at the moment... is it just me?

Admittedly probably the sense of uncertainty is greater for us Brits at the moment than most other wealthy peaceful countries.

Also this party thread has been around for absolute aaaaaages. Hoping (but not really expecting) to win it this time, as I never have in my nearly-a-decade of being more-or-less present.

First time back in what feels like aaaaaaages. Was just checking some AARs I made as a kid, and it makes me cringe at my 14 year old self. How's everyone doing. Whats happened to the forum in my absence?

All i heard in my head when i saw that was:

Welcome to my house
Baby, take control now
We can't even slow down
We don't have to go out
Welcome to my house
Play that music too loud
Show me what you do now
We don't have to go out

This one has indeed lasted a while.

Mainly because those who post respect the no double-posting rule, and with everybody working and making babies and getting jobs and stuff, this place has been a ghost town as you young'uns begin to catch up to me in age (I still have a HUGE headstart!) and there are too few new folks joining us.

I used to think it would be better for encouraging new people to join if we didn't talk about our long gradual decline out loud on the forums too much, but that only matters if there were any non-signed up people reading the forums at all... so I don't mind any more. See what I did there...

At least 7 people have voted on the new poll I put up. That's a start.

Now, to encourage them to post as well.... Viking raids and voyages have little sway there.

But all the poor news these days really makes for poor conversation.

Olympics start today. Favorite event? Mine personally would have to be either the pole vaulting or swimming events. I think Aussie are going to do well at this Olympics- well i hope at least.

Started playing a new game a few days ago called Life is Strange. Not really my genre - or so I thought; but they made the first episode free on Steam and now I'm completely in love with it. Beautiful art, good concept, great characters and script. Highly recommend.

Terikel, could I include your Viking Raiders unit in the new mod I'm working on? It's building on Keltoi TW which I released a couple of years ago, but I'm expanding it to change a bunch of other stuff mainly with historical accuracy and realism in mind - I want to give Germania some different top-tier units to their current ones, and those Vikings of yours look just great.
