Well, no it won't. I have full confidence that CA are going to improve on Rome greatly with this.
The problem facing CA is that Rome is such an iconic game, and the mods that have been developed done so much for it, that it's going to be a bit difficult to get the balance right between different people's experiences with the first.
In broad terms, the major split is going to be between those who are expecting it to be like the vanilla, and those who think they should go for a EB/RTR angle- both brilliant in my opinion but I know there are some people on TWC that would feel strongly about either. And whichever side loses out will expect some mod tools to be able to do something with the game to change it- perhaps not the olympic gymnastics that Rome is able to perform, but certainly a bit more than what is able to be done at present!
So while it's the fan's preferred request, I do wonder if it's not going to be a little bit of a poisoned chalice in that not everyone can be satisfied by this. My personal thought is that they'll go a bit more towards RTR- not to the extent of EB, but a bit less "shiny and clear cut" than vanilla Rome.

I agree, Vanilla was too easy and simple, whereas EB/RS2 are too much for many people. I think RTR has found a good balance, and I expect the R2tw team knows that too and will use it to their benefit.
They really should make the barbarian civs more different. And also give the hellenic civs some more local elements to differentiate between them. It would also be nice to see small kingdoms/cities/tribes like Syracusae, Massilia as either factions of their own, or as strong rebel towns, which can do more than just be conquered (like constructing buildings, training armies and even attack nearby towns).
I personally cannot wait, I have been giddy for the past hour.
I was giddy the entire day! I'm surprised I was able to sleep that night! And I knew about it since about 9am!
As for the game itself, I feel like it's going to be more like Roma Surrectum than RTR or EB. RTR was good in that it depicted the changing of cultures in a city, but by the Gods at times it was a pain in the ass. EB is just too indepth, unit wise. I downloaded it once, but my rig couldn't handle the terrain graphics, so I have no idea outside the one crappy battle I had.
Meanwhile RS was a combination of the two. It had the system of AoR and Faction Units, but wasn't that big of a pain (didn't have to build as many barracks and the like), but it was detailed in that it had RL Legion recruiting locations. I do expect CA to go very detailed into Rome (hell, they could call it Classical Total War), that is one of, if not the, most known powers in the game. The other factions won't be glossed over like in Rome1, but I wouldn't expect the detail like we will have with Rome.

As soon as I get back to my PC I will try out these mods.
Punic I have been giddy for awhile now.
Anyone have any idea on pricing or a release?
