Topic Subject: Total War: Rome II Faction Reveal: Macedon

“Glory, order, power.”

Desperate to reclaim its past glory, Macedon finds itself locked into its pre-Alexandrian borders by the Illyrians, Thracians and Greek city states on all sides. Can the Macedonian Empire rise again under a new Alexander?

I knew CA was going to reveal a Hellenistic faction soon, and they couldn't have done any better than choosing the kingdom of Macedon

The a brief description can be found here on the Total War Wiki. On a personal note, this reveal has succeeded in getting me twice as excited for Rome II's eventual release. The only way they can possibly get me more pumped up is to unveil the Seleucid Empire. *crosses fingers*

Macedon was my favourite campaign in the original Rome. Somewhat surprised by the reveal though, thought they'd be bundled in with the Greek culture.

I'm guessing Creative Assembly's plan is to have the Hellenic factions divided between two distinct groups much like how the Europa Barbarorum team did in their mod. The Western Greeks would consist of factions like Macedon, Athens and Sparta where Greek culture is dominant, while the Eastern Greeks would consist of factions like the Seleucid Empire and Ptolemaic Egypt where Greek and Eastern culture became intermixed with one another.

I like the reveal, even if Macedon holds less territory than I thought it would. I'm also surprised they didn't reveal a barbarian faction. They've already shown a few models for them.

Macedon looks cool, and i like how they lost control of Corinth(i don't think it is even on the map). I am excited for a barbarian faction though, hopefully with as many buildings available to them as the Romans and Greeks.

well,it was sure that at least 1 greek faction would be announced soon but I don't want it to be destroyed easily by the Romans when they invade Greece like RTW.

hopefully R2 will be a bit more balanced and have some decent opposition for the Romans to hit their head against and very slowly expand instead of wiping over all opposition. I believe they will release a barbarian faction next, or so i hope.

I wanted Gauls.

And Corinth really ought to be featured on the map.

And playing against Macedon is once again going to be a horrid walkover.

I distinctly remember a CA staff member saying on the Total War Center forums that the maps for the faction reveals are only "artistic interpretations" of the actual campaign map, not too different from when a mod team releases a picture of an an expanded campaign map without going into detail about what cities are present. The early days of the Europa Barborum and Rome Total Realism mods are examples of this. Also, if you look closely you'll notice there are multiple cities in certain provinces.

CA has also said that the next developer diary will and I quote, "We're gonna leave the shores of the Mediterranean behind and we're gonna go into the forests of Germania and Gaul and we're gonna be looking at barbarians." The video can be found here.

They've gone on record to say that 'historical authenticity' is there aim more than 'historical accuracy' since the latter would be more of an 'on rails' experience rather than the open sandbox campaign style that Total War games are best known for.
