Download Content is incoming, for sure. DU touched on faction DLC in his thread here, but what of expansion packs? CA have supplemented their main games with both unit and expansion DLC since the series first started to use Steam.

Empire: Total War had the average "Warpath" featuring the Indian tribes in America. Napoleon, the pseudo-expansion to Empire, had the Peninsula campaign. Although I didn't play it, I believe it was well received.

Shogun 2 had the excellent "Rise of the Samurai" - which rather than magnifying a portion of the conflict, set the clock back a few hundred years and focused on a different conflict, with different units and a differently designed campaign map. Then came the much larger, and also standalone, expansion "Fall of the Samurai", with the starting date 300 years after that of Shogun 2's main campaign. With another new set of factions, campaign, and it's own faction-DLC. The main game was rounded off nicely, the DLCs allowing it to cover a wide time span and three distinctly different eras.

As for Rome II, what expansions are we likely to see? I personally doubt that CA will go the way of Shogun 2, and have different 'eras' across the whole map - Europe will be too large to redesign and re-populate with factions and unit rosters in this way. So, will they simply re-make the previous Rome DLC? Alexander and BI? They didn't remake the Mongol invasion for Shogun 2...

I was hoping for mini-campaigns, such as a Second Punic war or a Pyrrhic war campaign...

With regards to expansion packs, like Alex I was hoping on expansions that would focus on certain campaigns or time periods like the Successor Wars, Pyrrhic War and the Punic Wars. For a Roman focused expansion I'm hoping for one that focuses on the Crisis of the Third Century as it would promise plenty of warfare and civil strife with the empire assaulted by breakaway or rebellious kingdoms on opposite ends of the empire.

Good ideas. I'd really like to see a greek city state expansion, zoomed in on that region of the map. Unlikely though, because unit rosters are going to be practically identical across all of the factions I would've thought.

I really enjoyed the idea of the original Barbarian Invasion, and hope it's redone in one form or another. Playing as the WRE was intense, trying to put out the rebellions and unrest and defend the borders of your over-extended empire.

Jesus, I have bad memories of playing as the WRE.

General Rawlinson- This is most unsatisfactory. Where are the Sherwood Foresters? Where are the East Lancashires on the right?

Brigadier-General Oxley- They are lying out in No Man's Land, sir. And most of them will never stand again.

I'd love a detailed Greek expansion with new map. Also one for the Eastern factions would be good

I definitely would love a BI related expansion. Some factions have an extremely hard time surviving (WRE) while playing as the invading barbarian invaders (Franks, Saxons, ect) was fun because you're taking apart Rome, whom I personally find a foe no matter which faction I am

My God, sacking Rome with a barbarian faction was the biggest cashcow I have ever had.

I loved BI, I hope they do a later date expansion for Rome II as well.

WRE actually is very easy if you disband units(esp. Foedociarii(which were historically a huge reason for the fall of the Roman Empire btw, props to CA )). Then your economy is easily the best, The Celts and Berbers are too weak and easy to conquer, the hordes are pretty much dead by the time they reach Roman borders, and by then the WRE is stable and more than powerful enough to take on the ERE and hit the victory conditions, and if you wish to continue, unite the Roman Empire and conquer the whole map. Easiest Total War campaign I've ever done, and this was on VH/VH, they should have made the hordes, Berbers and Celts tougher, so this would be giving Rome a tougher initial challenge militarily, a future threat, and making Rome less prepared for civil war.

Hopefully this will be addressed if they make a "Fall of the Romans" expansion.

I just did a scorched earth policy in Gaul and withdrew to Italy. But the damn Alamanni cut me off at Milan and I had to fight some brutal battles. Lost a lot of generals and men: nearly six thousand overall.

I also did a WRE campaign for fun where I evacuated to Britain. I guess it was my reaction to there not being a way to play a campaign as the Romano-Britons. That game was crazy though, I got there and all, but I never finished that game, I pretty much just wanted to unite Britain anyway...
