Hail noble friends and forummers!

The veil has finally be lifted over the East and Rome's age-old enemy and rival stands as the 7th faction to be shown to the world. Parthia has entered the fray it's starting position reveals just how far East the campaign map now goes.

“Tolerance, justice, profit”

The ascension to power of Arsaces, leader of the Parni tribe, assured them victory against the Seleucid protectorate of Parthava, who had been weakened in their attempts to break free of Greco-Macedonian rule. Thus began the rise of Parthia, an eastern empire comparable to the Achaemenid dynasty of old and one of the few who came close to matching the power and wealth of Rome.

A confederation of tribes, Parthia is famed for its horses, nomadic horse-archers and heavy cavalry, the latter developing distinctive bronze or iron scaled armour which covers both horse and rider. For its infantry it relies on ethnic Persian/Iranian hillmen, spear and skirmisher units and sometimes mercenaries, armed and drilled in the Seleucid fashion.

Blending Persian, Hellenistic and local cultures, Parthia’s religious practices and philosophies include veneration of both Greek and Iranian Gods, and the practice of Zoroastrianism. Over time, a noble elite has developed, holding key areas of agricultural land upon which the economy is based, while trade via the emerging Silk Road enables its agents to move easily throughout the ancient world.

As an Eastern faction, Parthia profits from the rich heritage established by the Persian Empire both in its capacity for trade and in its cultural strength. A degree of tolerance for foreign cultures further eases Parthian conquest of new lands, but their Zoroastrian practices mean an aversion to slavery, which is detrimental to both the economy and to public order. In battle, their great marksmanship and mastery of cavalry makes them a force to be reckoned with when fighting on open ground.
Even though the map is an 'artistic depiction' of the campaign map, it shows that the sandbox for our wars and battles has grown considerably larger. Now that we know far East the has grown, I'm very interested in how far north and southwards the map stretches as well. Perhaps we'll be able to see the whole of Upper Egypt and the Arabian Peninsula so that the Saba may play a part as a minor faction?

This looks awesome... I may actually play an Eastern faction for once.

One major faction left... my guess is the Ptolemies.

I think we can see the edge of the map there... Notice the bit on the extreme right where there's no more provinces, just empty?

Also, kickass screenshot.

Excellent.

I'm pleased the map goes as far as Bactria. Possible DLC later on hopefully.

Bactria would be awesome. The extent of the map reminds me of RTR (HELL YES!) and the Parthians look formidable foe. No longer can I mock them for wearing their pajamas to battle...

I think the last faction might be a surprise. Make it like Pontus or something. Throw one last surprise at us before release

I just hope they've brought the Parthian Shot back to horse archers. I lamented its absence in Empire and Shogun 2. It'd be kind of silly if the men who gave it its name couldn't do it.

Looking forward to crushing the world beneath my hooves again!

If CA goes with a wild card faction, I'd personally enjoy it if they chose Pergamum. A small kingdom on the rise and perfectly positioned to expand in either Europe or the rest of Asia, but small enough to avoid the gaze of the Seleucid and Ptolemaic Empires.

City states like that would be part of the appeal of visiting the Roman period again with the new engine for sure!

I too would rather have Pergamum than Pontus. I think other mods have made Pontus plenty enough diverse, while Pergamum would be refreshing.

This is going to be one fun game.

Maybe even strong enough to knock the original RTW from its appointed home in my cd drive.

I always have a lot of fun as the Eastern factions in the Total War games. Usually play them after I've done a handful of campaigns as the Europeans though.

In Medieval Egypt was a lot of fun. In Empire the Mughals were a lot of fun. With the map extended that far out I hope the tradition continues

I'll be doing what I did with Shogun 2 and Empire before that...booking the week off work to slob it out, living in a cave of Pepsi Max, junk food and enduring countless late nights and early mornings.

Haha I'll be doing the something similar except replace Pepsi Max with Captain & Coke. Nothing like a bit of a buzz to make controlling thousands of soldiers in battle a bit more interesting. I'll probably have episodes of Rome playing on the tv as well so I can listen to Vorenus and Pullo cause chaos, while I do the same in the game.

I think this is the first faction I play not because I really like Eastern factions but just to get them out of the way. lol

I think this faction would dominate online especially going against a more infantry focused faction.

Skirmish with horse archers, take out spear man. Hit and run with catas, flank on all sides.

I think a faction to watch out for in online play.
