Total War has always been about you, the player, as you lead your faction to glory.
But I've always wondered what it'd be like to focus on a single individual general. As in, you pick a character (Marcus Crassus, Spartacus, Hannibal Barca, etc) and begin with a small army. As you fight you will gather a stronger army, as well as money to support your family back home, and approval of the senate who grants you soldiers and gold.

The issue with this of course lies in what happened to many such generals; after a few decades, they died.
Make each turn last about 3 months, that way generals will live longer while at the same time offering good gameplay. There could be a work around.
I suppose you could groom a successor and continue on, but I think the main attraction of RTW and the Total War games in general tends to be their large scope and the player's ability to control an entire empire.
Yes, it is, as I mentioned in the first post. I did not say anything about replacing the current system, just add a new type of campaign.
Also, never played Crusader Kings.

was the ai from alexander really smart? I played it and won pretty quickly but I'm not sure what difficulty I was on. I certainly don't remember the AI feeling any different than RTW. With that said I also didn't think Alexander was worth getting. I played it once, was proud of myself, and never touched it again. With that said I really like the idea of following a single general across the map but I also want to have a successor and continue the conquest.
