Currently we don't know exactly how this will work, but who is on for playing with us?

There was a Multiplayer Clan at Shogun 2 Heaven, which accumulated a pretty large following (over a hundred members off the top of my head) and it'd be good to get to that kind of community again.

So who's up for some Rome 2 online action? I guess we'll go the same route with the Steam group as we did for S2.

Excellent! We had some good 2 v 2 games in Shogun 2. I played a few against strangers with Liam as my partner and once he left me on an island all by myself to fight off both my opponents while he ran his infantry across the map haha.

I would, but I'm so bad that I have trouble winning in Easy/Easy, so yeah...

Don't worry dude I suck too. But playing amongst ourselves on the forum/Steam Group is much more fun than losing to strangers.

I'd definitely be up for a multiplayer campaign and a couple of online battles here and there. Hopefully there won't be too many people "hill camping" in Rome 2, since running into those guys all the time is what really put me off of Shogun 2's multiplayer.

Nothing like a bit of multiplayer among the TWH folks.

You know to solve those hill campers they really should adapt the capture point system so that is doesn't provide bonuses but rather counts toward victory. Or to be blunt, they should take the capture points from sieges and adapt them to multiplayer land battles. Though, keep the option of having classic land battles, since options are always great.

Give people and their armies something to fight over so they have to maneuver and not just camp the best spot. At least you can design around people defending capture points by making the terrain harder to defend and the sort.

Well, we have camps now- and they probably won't be half way up a hill to the side of the map too...

I might play a few online battles as well, though that has never been the essence of total war for me. I never played empire, shogun 1 or napoleon, but in the other total war games I'm pretty deadly against AI, but that's mostly because I exploit AI stupidity rather well and use pause to coordinate my attacks. Without pause, which is usually the case online, I'm not very good.

I thought that it did count towards victory - if you held them all didn't a timer kick off?

There's always a play-off between a strategically strong position and something that gets the enemy to engage (and have fun, although that's probably less of an issue in real battles than in games). M2TW for example you could rely on the enemy to advance into your carefully managed deathtrap, which weakened the AI but stopped it 'hiding' in a strong position itself.

I vaguely remember there being at a battle in the English Civil War (I think) where both sides deployed and after a while everyone moved along to a different field because both sides acknowledged the other would never attack them where they were. Can any historian tell me I'm wrong there?

Once again I'll probably be late onto the train so please keep the R2TWH clan thing going for a while.

I think so. Most days in Shogun 2 I never get automatched on such maps anyhow, so I cannot even be sure.

For the first few weeks I'll mostly be playing the campaign, but I'd be happy to play some ladder matches or clan matches after that! I used to love playing Rome Total War competitively.

Shall have to investigate re-establishing the old RTWH multiplayer ladder for Rome II and Swap Game tradition. I cannot imagine Rome II will vary significantly from Shogun 2 in regards to Swap Games, so should just be a matter of clearly explaining the more complicated process of locating the save games.

I still have the ladder stuff for M2TW's old ladder, Scip, if you want it. If there's enough interest we should perhaps do one.

That would be great, if there is the interest. Would certainly like to try and establish some activities around, or soon after, release time. As it is probably best to strike early whilst the Rome II buzz and hype are at its greatest, and hopefully retain a few new bloods as the stumble in.

Pretty Much. Anyone else keen for a battle on the day of release? Night for me: Morning for UK/ America.
Be a nice way to get into it..

Shall have to see what I have happening, with the release date being during the working week. A provisional "yes" for now however.
posted 08 August 2013 06:13 EDT (US)     19 / 33
That would be easier- But i would still be 3 hours ahead of you.
But we shall organise something/ a thread closer to the date..

Dunno about day of release, I'll be busy delving in. I'm off work the following two days though so could get some games in the morning GMT time if you're around.

Anyone with some Photoshop prowess want to kindly make a Rome 2 Clan banner for Steam, something simple like the Shogun 2 one (That I did in paint) would be ideal;

Then we can get to setting the Steam group up

Sometimes I wonder whether it would just be easier to just establish one overarching TWH Clan Steam Group, rather than several individual Steam Groups for each game. Though if people would prefer yet another Steam Group exclusive to a single Total War game (Rome II) we can always setup one up.

I feel like a specialised group would be better, easier to organise things amongst the members that way. Plus you guys can use it as our niche over here to attract new members. Ultimately up to you fellas though.
