Forummers of Total War Heaven

Many articles have been submitted to both M2TWH & RTWH over the years and much effort has been expended by non-staff but us staff are greedy and we want more so we're going to run a wee scheme that will both thank those who have contributed as well as encourage further contribution.

Custom titles
Yes. You heard that right. We will hand out custom titles to people who submit articles.

Here is how it's going to work.
If you submit four articles, you will gain a "tier 1" title.
If you submit seven articles, you will gain a "tier 2" title.
If you submit ten articles, you get to choose your own title.

The titles on offer are:
RTW
Tier 1: Centurion
Tier 2: Legate

M2TW
Tier 1: Ministerialis
Tier 2: Banneret
ETW/Napoleon
Tier 1: Rake
Tier 2: Gentleman

Shogun 2
Tier 1: Sensei
Tier 2: Roshi

This scheme applies for all future articles submitted and is also backdated to include articles submitted in the past that are hosted on our two front pages.

The articles eligible are:
-Strategy or gameplay articles for both M2TW & RTW.
-Modification tutorials for both M2TW & RTW.
-History articles for both M2TW & RTW.
We will also count hosting & presenting the forum awards. For practical reasons, we will not be backdating this beyond the most recent awards (which do count).

We will not be keeping count of articles submitted and it is up to the forumers themselves to keep count of their own articles and contact mods to request their title.

If all your content submitted is M2TW-specific, then you will get the relevant M2TW title. If you have submitted for both games, you get to chose whether you have the M2TW or RTW title.

A couple of pointers...
We're giving out rewards here so we expect any submitted content to be up to scratch. Any articles requiring major correction or amendment beyond html coding or otherwise deficient will not be considered. TwH mods have the final say on this matter and any complaints or issues will be dealt with over email.

Staff are welcome to avail of this scheme for their own submitted content if they wish and there is no issue if anybody wishes to collect their custom title at a later date. This scheme isn't going to run anywhere and there is no time limit as to when you can cash your cheque.

For practical reasons, anybody who qualifies for selecting their own custom title gets one go at picking it so make sure you're happy with it as there are no second chances, unless you feel like submitting another 10 articles!

Feel free to discuss this and if you have suggestions on how the scheme can be improved, let us know.

Can't wait to see all of you eager beavers scrambling to get some articles done

Also custom titles aren't exactly common, so it is certainly worth having a go at if only to stand out amongst all of the other Heavengames peasants as someone who has helped out a heaven or achieved something commendable.

Does this include history articles? I think I have submitted somewhere around 4. Gaius?

-Strategy or gameplay articles for both M2TW & RTW.
-Modification tutorials for both M2TW & RTW.
-History articles for both M2TW & RTW.
And
We will not be keeping count of articles submitted and it is up to the forumers themselves to keep count of their own articles and contact mods to request their title.
So, yes, history articles count, but we're not keeping count for you. However, I just did a quick check at M2TWH and I counted only three by you, unfortunately. Did you write any others for RTWH?

Also, AARs are not articles:
This scheme applies for all future articles submitted and is also backdated to include articles submitted in the past that are hosted on our two front pages.
Only articles in our article database are eligible, not forum posts.

And afaik an article's an article - length doesn't factor into it.

Nice idea. I remembered I do have one up there still although it was panned by one bloke who I have never seen on the forums since.

I like the idea of it but I think it would be too hard to judge which ones are worthy and which are not. Plus, a good war story could take months to resolve and it would take years before somebody is eligible for a title. I think it's best to keep this for front page content only with the exception of forum awards.

Maybe another thread on ideas for the war stories forum....

Alright, so Gaius scores some serious points for creative ways to get articles.

This is a good idea, I might have to try this out.

I like the idea of it but I think it would be too hard to judge which ones are worthy and which are not.
For starters, about 70% AARs never go more than two weeks before their originators give up on them, let alone all the ones that die because the person's save was corrupted and it was the only one they ever made for the campaign, or their computer died, etc...

*whistling*

no, i'm just whistling here...

but Gaius, you bribing a bit much lately, aren't you? first the download reviewer-signups and now this... it's a nice idea to get the less lazy people than me working though, i reckon.

one question: gameplay articles are articles too, right?

Yep, it's true, having no sig is boring. But so is this one. Which makes my point... relatively pointless.
Can a point be a point when it is pointless?

I plan on writing an article about the crusades very soon.
It will be about how different the perspectives were of the
Crusaders in their conquests of the Holy Land. Then I shall bag my fourth article and
grasp that custom title by its throat!

We've been rumbled guys! Send in the "cleaners".

The download reviewers isn't actually a new thing at all. Many other heavens have them and this heaven also had them in the past. We're just reviving it.

As for the contributor custom titles...yup that is a total bribe. We are guilty as charged but four articles isn't that much when you think about it. With the experience & knowledge available in our community, people will be able to come up with four articles quite easily between gameplay, modding & history.
Then I shall bag my fourth article and grasp that custom title by its throat!
Good to hear that Santos. We'll look forward to it.

It's only fair that somebody who may have contributed 3 articles back in the early days of RTW being released should be eligible in the same way as more recent submissions.

I almost ... myself when I saw the name of this thread. I've got two articles up...hmm. I'll have a Kingdom of the Isles article sent in soon, and another, on, if there's a place for it, the Gaelic pantheon
And then I've ran out of topics I know much about

I've got a guide of the evolution of castles and fortifications, just editing it, and would a guide to the old Border way of life, different to the Lowlands and Highlands and in England as well, be appealing? I'm working on that one.

Now to decide on what my future custom title should be...Jacobus? No, sounds like a Routemaster. Sennachie? Nah, I'll take a more proactive role in fighting should any arise. Chief? MacCailean Mhor, I beg forgiveness. But stuff you, this is online, you're not.

Okay, I've both decided my future custom title and have sunk to a new level. So, will those articles be fine, or will I have to write one about something...further afield from my back yard?

Actually infantry isn't bad, it's just overused

We already have two faction articles on Scotland (one on Scotland in general, one on the Gaels) so I think that's enough, really. I'd much prefer articles about countries that are not covered at all at the moment. The article about castles and fortifications sounds excellent, however.

If you were to write one on the Borders I'd prefer it if it was about an actual event - a war or battle.
