Topic Subject: Help With my First RTW Mod

So after playing a lot of Rome Total War, i tried to create my own mod.
I made a simple map with 4 regions and put Pontus, Armenia and Numidia in there.
The map loads fine, and you can play a bit, however after a few turns it just crashes with no message.
I made it by making a new folder in "campaign" folder and adding names to data/text.

Have you tried playing it with the -show_err tag on? Append that to the target as and it should let you know what caused the error.

The "show-err" did show me messages when it was stuff like characters on water etc.

But now it crashes in the early turns during the AI turn and doesn't give me anything

When exactly is the crash?

Is it when it loads a tactical battlefield in preparation for a battle?

Or a city siege?

Or when the enemy is moving troops?

Try to isolate the incident causing the crash. A battlefield bug might be just a comma out of place in the Export description Units file.

Also, which files did you modify? If you map only has four regions and three factions, the crash might be caused by the AI trying to load what it thinks are the other 27 factions and finds no place to put them...

The crash is when you click the end turn and the AI makes it moves

It shows the shields on the top, when it reaches one of the factions it CTDs

Not an specific faction apparently, since it does the crash when I play as any of them

If you've reduced things to only 4 factions, I'm pretty sure it's because the game is moving to a faction that doesn't exist, which is causing the crash.

So the game needs more factions to exist?

Because the Sicily mod for exemple only have 3 factions (and rebels)

Or does it need more regions?

Did you follow the guides for reducing factions and regions? I haven't played around with those particular features much myself, but if you somehow missed removing a portion of one of the files that control what faction has what, I could see that causing your crash.

So the CTD occurs when it loads one of the few factions active in the game?

That could point to an error in the faction.

How did you reduce the factions? Copy+paste the four you wanted into new files, or delete all other factions except those four? Either way, something was probably missed along the way.
