Note: Updated for the 1.2 patch!
Historical Battles features different historical battles as accurate as possible like correct army setup, placement, terran, unit ratio, strenght/weaknesses while preserving the excellent gameplay. Currently you will find 20+ famous battle ranging from Silarus River, Guagemela, Cannae, Pharsalus including sieges, ambushes, massive confrontations, loading screens and different language versions plus many more things which hopefully will offer you some tactical challenges as you take in command of some of the most famous generals and leaders in history like Darius - King of Kings, Hannibal, Spartacus, Boudicca and Alexander the Great! |

This is a download that I've had my eyes on for quite a while, now the download section is up I thought I'd review it.
This is a package that does what it's meant to do - Delivers some new battles - And it does so with greatness! Well done!
Additional Comments:
The reason for the 4.5 is because, although they're really good - They don't have an intro movie, I understand this is hard - But it should be a nice challenge for you, right?

Does this modify any or ur RTW settings or just add new battles? |

I'm fairly sure it just adds new battles.
Gaius, although I agree with your rating it needs to be more detailed (What did you like about the maps, that kind of thing). I've removed it, feel free to update it with a more detailed rating if you like.
I should have a RTWH specific rating guide up by Monday at the latest.

I love it...I'm gonna post a more indepth review later, once I play a few more of the new battles. However, I was wondering whether, pending new battles in the future, how would one go about remocing this mod from their file, either to install another, or to install an update of this one? |

Man I am so sorry, but that is the worst thing I have ever downloaded. I am seriously wondering if you did any work at all. I just tried the "Issus" battle, and I have to say, that was the LEAST fun thing I have ever played in this entire game, and I've had it sence the week it came out. I'm sorry but most of them are just stupid, and don't even look fun. Half of them I'll look at the unit set up and go, what the hell? Like man, you made the mod, go look at some of them. Does that ACTUALLY look fun for you to play? Tell the truth. It's just random custom battles! They don't even have like formations or anything, they just follow Rome:TW AI rules (AKA, mass everything, send a few jackass units around the side to harass your cavalry, and totally ignore the main soliders, so that by the time you get to them you're tired). Do some research, or figure out how to place units before the battle starts, or something. Just don't give us a clump of units. As it is now, it's just a bunch of custom battles, and I've played through most of them and they are seriously not fun. Find some way to make it entertaining, and different!
Please read the review guideline before you submit a review. While you are entitled to opinion I will not accept reviews as grossly underrated as yours is. (http://rtw.heavengames.com/rtw/articles/2004/12/28/review_guidelines/index.shtml)

I think they are pretty nice, but was wondering if you could do one more modded battle of some sort, if anyone could. Troy, now that would be a fun little battle eh? :) |

It was good, but not great.
Additional Comments:
Really I'm not impressed as much as I thought. No desriptions at all. Understandibly no videos but, come on! descriptions? If I wanted, I'd just make some fancy custom battles myself. The silarus river wasn't in the battle, and it isn't hard, you just find it's coordinates on the campaign map and alter a custom battle map you won't miss to those coordinates in the R:TW folder.
Not to be too critical I did like some battles and I enjoyed that some could be played online with more than 2 people. It's worth a download I suppose but with a few tweaks this could go a long way.[Edited on 02/08/05 @ 09:38 PM]

What? All of the battles have descriptions...unless we're both talking about something different. |
